News Perspective

I was impressed yesterday, in reading The New Indian Express newspaper, to see two awareness raising articles, one titled "Hell away from home" with a subheading saying "Shame on Us", which was about child labor in India. The other was called "Sacked down with cruelty", was about the "demonic yet arresting" practice of loading down oxen that were "profusely salivating and frothing". Though sensational, this article was meant to raise awareness about treatment of oxen, especially during the hot summer. In summers oxen should not be used to pull carts between 11am and 4pm. But this rule is seldom enforced." The perspective is one of accepting collective blame, which doesn't seem to be the tone of most American newspapers.
